Initial Examination

Our team will begin by taking your pet’s history, asking about your pet’s vision, comfort, and overall health. They’ll also review any current or past medications your pet is taking.

Next, a veterinary resident with advanced training in eye diseases will conduct a thorough examination, including tests to help diagnose and establish a baseline for future comparisons. This may involve measuring tear production, eye integrity, and intraocular pressure, as well as dilation to examine the back of the eye. Additional testing, such as blood work or imaging, may be recommended based on the diagnosis.

Please expect the examination to take around 2-3 hours. Afterward, you’ll receive a written summary and care instructions for your pet at home. If medication is prescribed, it may take some time to process and fill, similar to a human pharmacy.

Our team takes a collaborative approach to care, involving multiple experts and allowing our students and residents to learn from your pet. Thank you for your patience and for helping us provide excellent care for your pet.
